5inches?

Got these at the Oxford Circus TopShop for £70, suede and braided nubuck!

My boyfriend tells me he just spent $70 on an Electric Organ and I’m pretty sure I’m gearing up to spend that much on shoes between yesterday and today alone. And this is not taking into account the 8 other pairs I’ve purchased so far this summer.

I shipped a bunch over to New York, land of no sales tax on shoes and clothing under $100, in his trusted custody. Oh dear.

And since I haven’t done one of these ‘minor details of what’s going on in my life,’ here’s a quickie!

Lately I’ve…

  1. Been working quite a lot. I gotten a part-time job [though my current hours are edging dangerously near to full time] for the summer, and naturally, have already gotten tickets lined up ready to squander all my not-quite-earned savings away: yes, m’dears, I’m going to JAPAN for Christmas vacation.
  2. Does anyone else find the Fantasmic Disneyland radio commercial song oddly catching? When it comes on I find myself humming along much too frequently.
  3. Been slowly (not quite surely) putting up a few backdated posts about my Europe trip, which is more than I ever did for my China vacation last summer.
  4. Also been trying to figure out how to compact all the shit stuff I want to get back to New York in late August packed into one under-25lb parcel mail box, a medium-sized suitcase, and 2 carry-on’s. I’m trying to stay away from a suitcase being one of those carry-ons.

They say that when it really comes down to it, most of us are either shoe girls or a bag girls (though there’s a category that’s neither), meaning we would choose between a new bag or a new pair of shoes. I probably don’t have to even consider it: I’m a shoe girl through and through.

Which is why I was so excited about the onslaught of the thigh high boots in this year’s fall/winter designer collections:

These are the three favorite designer styles, Stella MacCartney for their sleekness, Prada for the rougher edge (hah!), and Rodarte for just being amazingly awesome. Of the three, Rodarte definitely is my favorite.

Unfortunately, the height of these boots come with a daunting stipulation: the price tag. Even the ugly ones are hefty in the cost to my pocketbook. Anyway, I’d been aching for a pair of these when I came across a lovely pair from Zipia. Suede and about 3 inches keep it as innocent as thigh high boots can be. [Also, I'm not tall enough for a flat pair.]

Black or gray? I'm having trouble deciding, though I'm leaning towards gray because I just bought a nice pair of black suede boots a few days ago...

Here’s the unaffordable but attractive list: Brian Atwood ($1,475), Stella MacCartney ($1,595), Chistian Louboutin, Stuart Weitzman ($675).

I’ve been suffering from slight meglomania lately. I’ve put a temporary pause on my clothing sprees and instead found myself spending more money than ever…on makeup. So these days I’ve been haunting Walgreens (yeah, well its cheap okay?) and finally picked up these ecotools brushes.

They are amazing beyond compare. Not only are the brushes super soft, cheap, and high quality, but they’re also awesome for the environment. Honestly, I don’t see myself shelling out the $28 dollers MAC brushes cost. Or even $16 for a dinky Sephora one.

I sound a bit like a commercial, don’t I?

Yeah, I pulled out my trusty camera and snapped some shots. <3 my coolpix.

I didn't include the handles in the shot because it looked more awesome close up, but they're made out of bamboo. :)

This morning, even though it was the first day of spring break, I crawled out of bed at 9am so Allie and I could go prom shoes shopping. Apparently there’s this warehouse that sells shoes really cheap the next city over. (Do keep in mind that this being California, the next “city” is essentially bordering the one I live in). And my, was it actually a warehouse.

We went through this building to the back, this huge storage place filled from ground to ceiling (well, halfway to the ceiling) with giant cardboard boxes. There were maybe 4 or 5 rows with a mess of shoes displayed and a huge crowd of people. We pushed our way to the back where the dress shoes were where there was also considerably less people and just browsed.

Apparently everything’s overstock from Baby Phat or something, because most of the shoes were these gaudy silver or gold monstrosities with nothing in my size. Also, my dress is red, so…

If I loved or wore sneakers (Converse/Vans/Adidas/etc.) I would probably have had a shoegasm there, since the bulk of ther merchandise was that. At $20-$25 per pair of those, I could definitely see the attraction. Too bad the only shoes I remotely liked were these Loubiton knock-offs (by you guessed it, Baby Phat).

Allie was going to get these slingbacks, but after standing 20 minutes in a line filled with people carting boxes filled with shoes, we gave up and went to breakfast. However, before pulling out of the parking lot, Allie’s mom did buy a sack of oranges and two mangos from an old guy in a pickup.

If anyone wants to know the location of this uncharted warehouse, just send me a message and I’ll reply as soon as I find out the actual address.

And I was all ready to pull out my sunshades too.

In other news, there has been rain, rain, and more rain. Just when I was ready and dressed and made-up for summer too! My two days of real spring got cut short and it poured poured poured instead.  Apparently, all kinds of weird things happen when I’m with Allie – eg, yesterday we locked ourselves (with all our bags) out of her house sans keys. She had the foresight to grab an umbrella before we headed out, but a few minutes later we realized that the said umbrella was completely broken.

We ran to Macdonalds and waited out for Cynthia to come rescue us. Yes, we did eat while we waited, since I actually like Macdonalds and am not afraid to admit it. Though maybe that’s why I’ve gained another 3 pounds. Sad, sad.
